Annette Himstedt’s Marlie (1996)

This is Marlie, a 1996 Annette Himstedt original who has been carefully restored with respect for her history and artistry. She arrived to me in her original underwear, socks, boots, and year bracelet, but her acrylic eyes had discoloured, her wig had been cut into a fringe and the curls brushed out, her eyelashes were loose, and her face and hands had faded with time.

I restored her with Italian green glass eyes, repainted her delicate features and hands, and restyled her hair to bring back her natural softness. Her original boots, which still carry Annette Himstedt’s stamped signature, were cleaned and refreshed, and her clothing adjusted to fit her perfectly once more. Inspired by Bill’s Journey Around the World, Annette’s own book, I wanted to honour the spirit of her dolls by giving Marlie new life.

To complete her presentation, I crocheted a small teddy and matching bag just for her — a gentle, personal touch to accompany her original 1996 bracelet. Today, Marlie once again reflects the charm and artistry of Annette Himstedt, ready to take pride of place in a new collection.
